Just working on a new mixed media journal; called Diva Dreams. It is so feminine. It is funny that sometimes journals make themselves or at least that is what it seems like to me. Here is a picture of it in progress ; not done yet….more bling????
This is a new experience for me and I am trying to get used to the idea of putting my thoughts, ideas and art work out there on the net. I have been working on a new technique using air dried paper clay. I do art therapy with children in my psychology practice and we have come up with some fun ideas. One that I made at home was this art trading card called Spirit God. It is made with a base of paper clay and then painted with metallic lumiere paint. I added a paper clay primitive face that I made in the top corner . The finishing touches were the Swarovski crystals that make the entire card sparkle. I added this card to the cover of a mini art journal . It is simple but effective, just what i like in my art work.
I hope to use this blog to bring my friends news about my art, my photography and my life. I will be posting free tutorials that show easy techniques to do mixed media collage. The emphasis will be on the word EASY. I often try to follow a tutorial and I get lost ( which is not a good feeling). So simple , easy to follow directions is what I like and I hope you do too. I have been experimenting with mixed media collage techniques now for a couple of years .
I also want to share some of my photographs with you. My dear husband and I travel whenever we can and I always have my camera in hand. I love to take landscapes , nature and animal photographs. I have been lucky to have a couple of them win photo contests and be published in nature magazines.
Recently, my work in mixed media collage , especially making art and travel journals, has led to a new passion; collecting vintage children’s and adult books and paper. Oh no… my poor husband and house. Now there are boxes of old books lining my hallway in neat categories waiting to be photographed, scanned or sold. We all step around them now. I hope to have a room cleaned out so that I can do my photography and book collecting in one place.
So there are always art experiments going on and new adventures occuring my my Creative Vintage Studio. I hope you can join me, and I can share some useful information with you. Please feel free to come by my etsy store; ldphotography,
and my facebook page. Thanks for taking the time to read this introduction. Here are some samples of some of my work.
I have been taken over by Little Golden Books. I remember reading them as a child and I always enjoyed the colorful illustrations. I am sure my parent loved the inexpensive prices ( sometimes only 25 cents). But alas, I did not keep any of the books from my childhood. Now I collect them. It is hard to find first editions in good shape , so I often collect older editions of titles until I can find a first edition. Because they are not first editions, I love to share these books with my nieces and nephews and keep the family tradition alive and well in 2013. When and if I am blessed with grandchildren I will pass this treasure on and hope that they will do the same for their children. The good things about this type of collection is that 1) it does not take up much space to store, 2) I have so much fun reading them to the children in my life, and 3) the thrill of finding a book at the thrift store is like a little treasure hunt. They are still not very expensive. I find that even older editions are often $5 or less on ebay or etsy. So here are some photos of some of my treasures. I sell the extra ones I find in my etsy store; drop by and see these vintage gems from childhood
