Thank you, Brianne Martin the managing editor of Somerset Studio for including my work in the Winter 2016 Gallery edition of the magazine. I am so honored to be in this wonderful publication. My friend Kim Collister is also in this edition of the Gallery.
Here is my mixed media scrapbook page; Pistol. I made this page to honor my Grandmother, Dee. She was a wild and captivating woman. Born in Mexico around 1900 and then grew up in Calexico. She was a woman who loved life and men. A person who lived a juicy life.
The style was inspired by Finnabair, a Polish artist who does some remarkable mixed media collages.
I have been working on making a journal completely handmade using recycled pressed paper that I have in my scrap basket. So here it is ; Enchanted Fantasy. I used Graphic 45 paper ( I love , love their designs) An eerie Tale to make the pages, cover the cardboard and make the pockets and tags. I used book rings that open to be able to add pages or to move pages around at will. Brown yarn to make the ties and the decoration on the sides. I am quite happy with this journal and it only took 3 evenings to make. Here are the photos;
I have been working on putting a family history scrapbook together. This photo is so sweet and innocent. I used the lyrics from Simon and Garfunkel’s song , Bookends. The lyrics are perfect for this layout. I wish I could have known my mother when she was so sweet and new.
This is my great grandmother who was named Martha Fritz Meier. She came to America from Germany as a child. She married my great grandfather when she was 18 and living in Minn. They came to California and she had 11 children. Unfortunately, my great grandfather died early and my g. grandmother had to support her family. She was a strong woman who lived to 88 years old. The contrast between the two photos ; one when she was about 40 and the last right before she died at 88 are both so beautiful.
